Big Quads.Skinny Jeans

Anyone else out there despise skinny jeans as much as I do?
I love Fall. I really do.
I love chunky sweaters.boots.scarves.pumpkin pie.& the smell of cinnamon candles.
& of course my birthday falls right before Halloween *ahem*

But one of the things I grieve about Fall (which doesn't start here in FL until late November) is trading in my beloved shorts for a pair of long blue jeans.
& thanks to my growing love for deadlifts.squats.& all things Crossfit, sliding on a pair of skinny jeans lately has been as effortless as wrestling an alligator.
I have big quads.
Or in the words of the fashion industry, I have "bulky thighs".
and i LOVE them.

Five years ago,  the thought of having big thighs {and the thought of being unable to follow a fashion trend} would have made me cringe.
Today, however, I see this as an accomplishment.
An accomplishment that I don't care what the trashy magazines say I should look like.
I don't care if I'm not on-trend.
I've worked hard for this strong, healthy body.
For these [broad] shoulders.
For these [thunder] thighs.
For the [hard] calluses on my hands.

I see 'fitness models' on the cover of magazines, and instead of thinking: "I wish I looked like that",
I wonder: "How many pull-ups can she do? What's her mile time? How much can she squat?"

It's not about looks. Or the size of your jeans (shorts, in my case). It's not about how many hamburgers you can eat without gaining a single pound.
It's about loving your body for all the things it has accomplished.
Whether that may be giving birth. Running a 5k. Or surviving an illness.
Love it for all its accomplishments.
& that is an accomplishment all on its own.

I packed up my too-tight-in-the-thighs jeans the other day.
I still have pants to wear this Fall/Winter, don't worry!
Five years ago, this would have made me cry.
Today, I feel accomplished. Refreshed, even.
Probably because I hate the thought of wearing pants, in general.

I'm more of a short-shorts-all-year-round kinda girl anyway!
And in the words of a good friend, "Skinny jeans must die."

  1. Love this post! Very inspirational. I'm the same way. No matter how thin or fit I get, I have muscular legs, so I try to be proud of the definition in my calves (and thighs) instead of feeling bad that I have a HARD time finding knee high boots!!

  4. Wow..I such needed this today! I have always had big thighs and then I started working out consistently for the last 9 months and my legs have gained so much muscle, that I can't fit in any of my jeans anymore. During summer it wasn't a problem because I wore a lot of skirts, etc but right at this week that the weather changed I about wanted to cry that I didn't have anything to wear. I DO look at myself in the mirror and I like what I see, and I enjoy my new found leg strength...but still working on getting over the whole media culture...thank you for sharing what you did. Found you through the Wiegand's. Following :)

  5. I have to say I love my skinny jeans with some boots. I agree with the legs thing though. I have pants that still fit my waist, but are tight around the legs from lifting weights. It's hard to find a good pair of jeans! I love shorts too!

  7. I've always had muscular thighs, so I've grown to love skirts and dresses. I had such a complex when I was younger, but now I think of it as possibly having the ability to kick a door down during a crisis like Chuck Norris. LOL. Found you through Soleil Selene.
