Every couple months I'll put myself through the emotional turmoil of going through Jason's clothes and picking out pieces that don't fit him anymore. *sigh* They really do grow up too fast. I save the clothes I like (in case we decide to have another baby), bag the ones I want to donate, and as for the ones with stains (from food or other baby-ish incidents) I will usually just throw them out. But of course, I sometimes feel like it's such a waste to throw clothes away just because of a stain. Especially, if it was something I loved on my son.
My son loves firetrucks. So instead of throwing away his old firetruck clothes, I decided to recycle them in a fun inexpensive project. And what better time to do it since we're currently redecorating his room.
-Cheap frames (from yardsale/dollar store/your house)
-Fabri-tac glue and scotch tape
-q-tips or something to apply the glue
-scraps of fabric from your fave baby clothes, cut to desired size & shape
-knife (not needed if it's a brand new frame)
Step 1: Lay out the design you want. I've cut out an embroidered firetruck and chose blue striped scrap fabric from an old onesie, cut to a rectangle. Oh, make sure you iron too!
Step 2: With a knife, cut along the paperback of the frame to remove the picture. Use the frame's edge as your guide.
Step 3: It should look like this. Remove everything except the glass.
Step 4: Carefully peel off the matting from the picture.
It should look like this. Obviously, I didn't remove the matting carefully.
The walls are a work in progress. This is what we have so far on this side of his room.

Step 5: Place your scrap fabric right on top of the image, making sure it's big enough to cover the entire (ladybug) picture.
Step 6: Center the firetruck and use fabri-tac glue to secure the firetruck onto the background fabric.Step 7: Place matting back on, make sure the firetruck is still centered. Then tape everything together on the back. Cardboard (ladybug picture), fabric and matting should be taped together on all four sides.
Step 8: Secure new picture into the frame, with all the backing that the frame came with and hang up to display. Done! The walls are a work in progress. This is what we have so far on this side of his room.

What a great idea! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI like how you re-purposed something in such a cute way.
Just wanted to say thank you for the nice comments you have left on my blog :)
I love that pasta less lasagna! That's awesome that it can be a part of your diet. Gluten really isn't good for any of us, especially those who are intolerant.
(did you know you are a no reply blogger. You may want it this way. If you don't let me know and I can help you change it. It just means that if you leave a comment I can't respond to you via email. It basically hides your email address)
Sorry for such the long comment :)
