Improvisation & Inspiration

This is what happens when you're a clean freak [like me] and you're married to a man who's easily sunburnt and going through his peeling stage ((bleh!!)).
Our couches are originally dark brown.
So I jumped into my precious linen collection and slipcovered away!
Please don't laugh.

Sorry for the craptastic Android quality photos.

All the sheets and pillows were thrifted except for the small white ruffled pillow (from Marshall's).
By the way, the bedskirt was only $1 at a yardsale...woot!!

Besides my husband's flaking skin driving me insane, my inspiration came from the guest house we stayed at in Beaufort, South Carolina.
Yes, I'm still obsessing over that place.
Everything from the walls, to the decor, to the linens, to the furniture was so vintage and
PERFECT!

Mismatched chairs. Mix & match towels and sheets. It was totally beachy & shabby chic.
Imperfectly perfect.
Totally Me.
I'm not going to lie, I wanted to take some linens home with me-as if my collection isn't taking over my linen closet already.
I wish I had taken photos of the decor for future reference.
& since we've moved in to our house, I've left the family room to itself. Barely decorated. There's no theme. No colors. Just your standard couch, coffee table, flat screen TV, and a few pictures on the walls. Hideous,  I tell ya. I was waiting for an idea to come to my mind. Some inspiration.

& after spending a few days at the Beaulieu guest house, I'm pretty sure I want to remember my experience forever by recreating the same beachy vintage theme in my own family room.
Too bad I can't paint my house pink & green too, right?

So get ready, 'cause I've got a few projects planned.
And I guess that means more thrift shopping on my agenda.
For now, I'll just enjoy my ghetto slipcovered couch.
PS: Here are some goodies I brought home with me from my trip.
Oh, South Carolina, you always know how to spoil a girl!

  1. Josie, I say paint your house green and pink! What a perfect picture with the sun coming over the beach house. Beach and shells are so in right now. I think your ghetto couch looks fabulous! Oh, regarding flaky man YUK! LOl

  2. Ew flaky man equals gross. Tell him to go flake elsewhere! Can't wait to see what you do. I know it will be fabulous. Love shabby chic. I did my daughters room pink and green shabby chic. It's my favorite room. I love the pic of the beach house. Makes me want to go there!
